Interesting article, but it misses the mark. I think you misrepresented what capitalism is supposed to be, and have then built a straw man argument around that misrepresentation.
Capitalism is, and has always been 100% about exploitation. Unabashedly so. You cannot hope to put capitalism to shame by accusing it of what it does best. That’s like fighting the windmills.
Capitalism thrives precisely because it has perfected the model of full-on exploitation. What is meant by ‘exploitation’? Taking advantage of any weakness, any misfortune. Your grandpa is diabetic? Well, that’s unfortunate. Capitalism, upon finding out about such misfortune, attacks it. Hey, here is a nice juicy piece of exploitable situation. How about we maximize this opportunity by milking it dry.
Exploitation for the benefit of profit is the highest imaginable good under the capitalist regime. Being the highest imaginable good, nothing trumps it. In this arrangement, there isn’t any other value that could ever take precedence over exploitation.
