Thanks Jeremy. The situation we’re in right now is reminiscent of the situation we were in 20 years ago. Those were the days when the web became mainstream platform for commerce. The similarities are striking — the same confusion over what can be done with the newly discovered platform, and of course many, many naysayers who, same as 20 years ago, claim today that this hoopla with the new platform is just a flash in the pan.
The only difference is that today the stakes are much higher — we have magnitude of order larger online market place, and consequently there is much more money to be made. But in both cases, we’re talking about the early pioneering land grab.
Everything is moving much faster these days than back in the mid ’90s. We had to wait until the early 2,000s before we could enjoy the first real framework for the web (Dr. Fielding’s REST thesis). My hope is that, with bots as a platform, we wont have to wait 5–6 years before some genius delivers commensurably powerful solution. An equivalent of the REST architectural style is sorely needed for the bot platform. Are you going to create it?
