Two things:
Speaking to machines is not as awkward as you portray it. The initial feeling of strangeness is the same as the feeling of strangeness we’ve been through during the early days of cell phones. People walking down the street while talking into some gadget they’re holding up to their ear? Weird. Especially on the public transit. Today, no one even thinks about those who talk on the cell phone. Same is going to happen when talking to machines hits the mainstream.
Voice is not the only channel of talking to machines. Instead of talking to Siri and ordering it to wake me up, I could’ve texted it. Same difference.
