Yes Giorgio, you’re bang on. Expert systems fell into oblivion during the so-called ‘Ice age of AI’ (this happened in the eighties). The funding for AI research suddenly dried up, and the entire endeavor was written off. Then in the early 90s it picked up a bit of momentum with breakthroughs in neural network research. Finally today we’re seeing a bit of a renaissance of AI, fuelled by the surge in popularity of text messaging/chat.
